Engineering leveling planner
Set where your Engineering stands and where you want it, choose which recipes to count, and read the path: the recipe at each skill, how many crafts to expect, and the reagents summed into a shopping list with where each comes from.
344 crafts expected for 299 skill points, from 1 to 300.
Shopping list
Expected units across the whole path, rounded up; a run of low-chance crafts can need more.

Ranks to train
Each rank raises the cap; train it before the skill reaches the one below, at any Engineering trainer.
- Apprentice Engineer: from skill 0 and level 5, cap 75
- Journeyman Engineer: from skill 50 and level 10, cap 150
- Expert Engineer: from skill 125 and level 20, cap 225
- Artisan Engineer: from skill 200 and level 35, cap 300
How the numbers are made
One skill point at a time. A craft always raises the skill while the recipe is orange, three times in four while yellow, once in four while green, never once grey: the rule the open emulator implements (cMaNGOS, SkillGainChance, its default chances 100, 75, 25 and 0). Expected crafts per point is one over that chance.
How a recipe is chosen
Among the recipes you can use at that skill, fewest crafts takes the highest chance; cheapest reagents takes the lowest expected reagent weight per point, counting a vendor-sold unit as 1, a gathered or crafted one as 2, a dropped one as 3 and anything else as 4, our own weights. A recipe stays chosen while it ties.
What it does not know
Auction prices, what you already own, and what Forever changes: Blizzard has said professions change, with over 600 new recipes, and the beta client's recipe tables will regenerate this page when they land. Until then every row is Classic's, and every number an expectation.
Community Recipes and skill colours are the client's (build 1.15.9.69722); trainers, vendors, drops and prices are the Classic 1.12 baseline from cMaNGOS classic-db; the skill-up rule is cMaNGOS's implementation. Not yet checked against Forever. All tools
