The WFN Collector
Our world index is built from what players see in Forever. The WFN Collector is a small addon that notes what your game client shows you, and you decide whether to send it to us.

Unzip it into your Forever beta's AddOns folder. Forever's beta lives in the
_classic_beta_folder: on Windows that isWorld of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns\, usually underC:\Program Files (x86)\; on a Mac,/Applications/World of Warcraft/_classic_beta_/Interface/AddOns/. -
Check that
AddOns\WFNCollector\WFNCollector.tocexists. If your unzip tool made an extra folder around it, such asAddOns\WFNCollector\WFNCollector\orAddOns\WFNCollector-0.4.0\WFNCollector\, move the innerWFNCollectorfolder up intoAddOns. The game only looks one level down. - Start the game. At the character screen, open AddOns and make sure WFN Collector is ticked. If it is marked out of date, Blizzard has changed the game's interface number before we released a new version: tick "Load out of date AddOns" and it runs as before.
Use
- Play as usual. The collector works silently and prints only when you ask it to.
- Type
/wfnto see what it has recorded, or/wfn resetto clear it. - The game writes the log to a file when you log out or type
/reload:World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\WTF\Account\<your account>\SavedVariables\WFNCollector.lua. -
The game saves the log when you log out or type
/reload, and loads it again at your next login, so it grows as you play./wfn resetclears it. The game also keeps the save before asWFNCollector.lua.bak.
What it records
Only what the game shows you, at the moments below. Each record carries the time it was made.
- Where an NPC or object stands, taken at the moments you stand at it: every loot window (a corpse, a herb or ore node, a chest) and every gossip, quest, vendor, trainer, flight master, bank, auction house and stable window. With your place on the zone map and in the world, and the gathering skill that opened a node.
- The recipes your profession windows list as known, with their reagents, what they make and the colour they show at your skill, and your skill in each profession.
- The quests you accept and turn in: who gave and took them, where you stood, each quest's title and objectives as the game shows them, and the experience and money it rewarded.
- The NPCs you target or mouse over: name, level, rank, type, health and whether they are friendly, with where you stood, which can be forty yards away, so it never becomes a map point.
- What each loot window held, what it came from and where you stood, the spell you cast just before it, and whether it came from an item in your bags.
- Vendors' items, prices and stock, what each costs in a currency or in other items, and the requirements its tooltip lists; and what trainers teach, for how much and at what level and skill.
- The crate loop: each Stock Crate or Read Label you cast, each change in a currency such as Merchant's Favor (the change only, never your balance), and each reputation message, with the NPC whose window was open; the latest 2,000.
- The zones and subzones you pass through, with their map numbers and where you first stood in each.
- Your realm, faction, race and class. Not your character's name.
- The game build, the addon's version and the log's format, and the time of each login or /reload.
- Any errors the addon hits (the first hundred, with the game event and the message), so we can fix them.
What it never records
- Your character's name, or anyone else's
- Other players: they are skipped even when you target them
- Chat, whispers, your guild or your mail
- Your gold, or what is in your bags or bank
- Your account, or anything outside the game
How your data reaches the site
The addon sends nothing. World of Warcraft gives add-ons no way to reach the internet, and this one sends nothing to other players in the game either. Everything it records stays in that file on your computer until you choose to send it.
You can check. The addon is two plain-text files. Open WFNCollector.lua in any text editor to read exactly what it does.
Our own logs reach the site through our review: after each of our sessions the file is read on our machine, checked, and merged, with the game build and the date on every row it adds. More on where the data comes from.
Uploads are not open yet. Files you keep can be sent once they open.
