Which class should you play in World of Warcraft: Forever?

Pick a faction, a role, a style or a race and see which of the nine classes fit, with the new pairings marked. Each card says what Blizzard has confirmed for that class, which today is little, and links to the source.

How to read the cards

The plain race chips are Classic’s race and class matrix, which Forever builds on. Blizzard has said Forever adds “new race and class combinations” and has not restated the Classic ones in words, nor published the complete list of additions. The gold chips marked new are the pairings Blizzard or its trailer has shown so far. The baseline is checked against Wowhead — Classic races database and Warcraft Wiki — Playable race .

What Blizzard has said about classes

  • Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap names six new race and class combinations: Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin, “with more planned for future updates.”

  • Talent trees keep Classic’s structure: the same number of rows, milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, and a new 16-point milestone. Some talents are unchanged from patch 1.12, some adjusted, and key class buffs (Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings, Improved Mark of the Wild) are now baseline. Each race gets two active and two passive racial abilities, reworked to be stronger and more distinct.

  • Combat keeps Classic’s pace: an ordinary creature takes a solo player “roughly 10–15 seconds to defeat,” crowd control still matters in dungeons, and damage dealers still respect threat. Spell, melee and ranged hit chance are combined into one stat, as are the three crit chances. Paladins are the first class detailed; “more class and race details are planned through future videos and articles.”

  • Blizzard: class identity “remains central,” with “new abilities, new race and class combinations, and updates designed to preserve the feel of the original game.” The updates “focus on talents and abilities you notice, meaningful trade-offs, and reasons to value what each class brings.”

  • The Battle.net Shop describes “updated class design” and “an expanded list of race and class options, including Dwarf Shaman and Forsaken Paladin.”

What we are still checking

  • Which further combinations follow the six: Blizzard says more are planned for future updates and has not named them.

  • Whether every Classic combination carries over unchanged. Nothing suggests otherwise, and Blizzard has not said it in words.

  • New specializations for Shaman and Warlock, from the pre-announcement leak. Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap describes talent trees with the same rows as Classic and says nothing about new specializations.

  • Talent and ability changes for the eight classes other than Paladin. Blizzard has promised them “through future videos and articles”; the beta shows them first.

The deep-dive panel and the beta will settle most of these. Until then the full picture of the game is on Everything we know and the changes from Classic on What’s different from Classic. Every class trainer and quest giver of the original world has a page in the NPC index.

What changed

  1. Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap folded in: six new combinations (Gnome Priest, Human Hunter and Troll Warlock join the three already shown), Blizzard as the first source on Orc Mage, Dwarf Shaman and Undead Paladin, the talent-tree, racial and combat statements, and the Paladin detail on its card.
  2. Tool created: Classic’s matrix as the baseline, the three confirmed additions and the Skyborne lists marked as new, Blizzard’s class-design statements quoted.
