Warrior in World of Warcraft: Forever
Rage, stances, plate at 40 and the main-tank job in raids. How the Warrior plays in Classic's design, who can play one in Forever, what Blizzard has said, and what we will check in the beta.

The short answer
The Warrior is Classic’s plate-wearing melee class: the raid main tank, and a damage dealer whose output rises with every weapon upgrade. Everything below describes the class as Classic shipped it, which is what Forever builds on. Blizzard has promised “updates designed to preserve the feel of the original game” and has published no Warrior-specific detail. The beta opens September 17, and this page changes as we play.

Classic's pairings per Wowhead — Classic races database and Warcraft Wiki — Playable race , checked 2026-09-13; Blizzard has not restated them for Forever and has not published the full list of additions. How it plays
- Rage, not mana. Rage starts at zero out of combat and builds from dealing and taking damage, so a Warrior gets stronger as a fight goes on and has nothing to drink.
- Three stances. Battle Stance from level 1, Defensive Stance from a level 10 quest, Berserker Stance from a level 30 quest. Each unlocks its own abilities and switching drops rage, which shapes the whole rhythm of the class.
- Plate at 40. Mail until then. Tanks stack armor and a shield; damage dealers swing a two-hander or, with the talent, two weapons.
- Tanking is a full kit. Sunder Armor for threat, Taunt, Shield Block, Revenge and Last Stand from talents. In Classic raids the Warrior holds the boss and other tanks pick up the rest.
- Damage scales with gear. Mortal Strike (Arms) and Bloodthirst (Fury) sit on top of auto-attacks, so weapon damage and weapon skill decide the numbers more than for any other class.
Leveling
The slowest start in Classic: low armor early, no self-healing, and food after most pulls. It turns around once a good weapon lands and Berserker Stance opens at 30. Warriors level fastest with a healer beside them, and a Warrior who keeps First Aid up saves a great deal of sitting.
What Forever changes
-
Combined hit and crit chances let Warriors, Hunters and Rogues “benefit when improving the reliability of tools such as Taunts, Poisons, and Traps.” Talent trees keep their rows with milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points and a new one at 16.

Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap names six new race and class combinations: Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin, “with more planned for future updates.”

Talent trees keep Classic’s structure: the same number of rows, milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, and a new 16-point milestone. Some talents are unchanged from patch 1.12, some adjusted, and key class buffs (Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings, Improved Mark of the Wild) are now baseline. Each race gets two active and two passive racial abilities, reworked to be stronger and more distinct.

Combat keeps Classic’s pace: an ordinary creature takes a solo player “roughly 10–15 seconds to defeat,” crowd control still matters in dungeons, and damage dealers still respect threat. Spell, melee and ranged hit chance are combined into one stat, as are the three crit chances. Paladins are the first class detailed; “more class and race details are planned through future videos and articles.”

Blizzard: class identity “remains central,” with “new abilities, new race and class combinations, and updates designed to preserve the feel of the original game.” The updates “focus on talents and abilities you notice, meaningful trade-offs, and reasons to value what each class brings.”

The Battle.net Shop describes “updated class design” and “an expanded list of race and class options, including Dwarf Shaman and Forsaken Paladin.”

What we will check in the beta
- Whether the three stances, their quests and the rage-loss on switching are unchanged.
- Any new abilities or talent changes in the three trees, against the Classic baseline.
- Whether tank threat and the main-tank role match Classic in the first dungeons.
- What a Skyborne Warrior looks like in the character creator, and which racial abilities it brings.
- The level 40 plate transition and the weapon-skill system.
Frequently asked
- Can a Skyborne be a Warrior in Forever?
- Yes. Blizzard's panel recap lists Warrior among the classes every Skyborne can play, whichever faction they choose at character creation.
- Is the Warrior still the main tank in Forever?
- In Classic's design the Warrior is the raid main tank. Blizzard has promised updated class design with meaningful trade-offs and has said nothing about tanking roles, so treat this as the baseline until the beta shows otherwise.
- Does a Warrior need good weapons to level?
- More than any other class. Damage comes from auto-attacks and weapon-based abilities, so an upgrade every few levels matters, and the early levels are slow without one.
