Protection Paladins trade block chance between two talents in the October 1 beta build. Redoubt now adds 4/8/12/16/20% block chance by rank, down from 6/12/18/24/30%. Holy Shield goes the other way, from 20% to 30%.
Retribution’s Champion of the Light turns less Intellect into spell damage: 20/40/60% by rank, down from 33/66/100%. Its tooltip used to say it raised healing too. Blizzard says it never did, and that line is gone.
Blizzard also lists a known issue: Retribution Aura reads the target’s spell power rather than the Paladin’s.
Our copy of build 1.60.1.70170’s files has all three talents at the new values, and Champion of the Light’s tooltip now names spell damage only. The Paladin talent calculator shows them.
Why it matters: a Protection Paladin’s block now leans on Holy Shield more than Redoubt, and Retribution gets less spell damage from Intellect.
