Cross-region grouping isn't happening yet

Cross-region grouping isn't possible yet. Blizzard already pushed realmless as far as the tech allows.

At PAX Australia 2026, Blizzard’s Holly Longdale and Clay Stone spoke with content creator Fiamma about WoW: Forever. Asked about playing across regions, they said it brings real technical challenges: it is the team’s first attempt at a realmless design, and while that work is going well in the beta, there is no more room to push it further at the moment. They added that they haven’t given up on the idea, only that it will take more time to get there.

Asked separately about the character cap for launch, they said it hasn’t been announced yet, and that there are technical limits on it.

Why it matters: Blizzard isn’t ruling out cross-region play, but it isn’t promising it either. For now it is an unsolved technical problem, not a planned feature.
