Rogues are meant to top single-target damage

On a standstill boss, no class should out-damage a Rogue. Kris Zierhut said so on podcast episode 2.

On a boss you can stand still and hit, no class in Forever is meant to out-damage a Rogue. Principal Game Designer Kris Zierhut said so on Speedrunning Classes, the second episode of Blizzard’s Forever podcast, released on October 1.

He tied the promise to one kind of fight: a Patchwerk-style encounter, with mechanics left out of the measure. He aimed it mostly at PvE Rogues rather than PvP players. White hits, Slice and Dice and poisons give the class enough damage that it is easy to push too far, he added. His case for the lead came in one line: “If Rogues don’t do the highest single-target damage, then why are there Rogues?”

Countdown To Classic hosts the episode. Zierhut is joined by two Senior Game Designers, Aidan Moon and Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield, with Sodapoppin as a guest. Its subject is how Forever’s classes are designed. Blizzard’s WoW Weekly post of October 2 pointed players to it again.

Why it matters: if you raid as a Rogue, the designers mean for you to lead single-target damage whenever the fight lets you stand and swing.
