Players are losing beta access over offensive names

Blizzard confirmed on the forums that players who create character names violating its naming policies can have their World of Warcraft: Forever beta access removed. The confirmation came in reply to a player asking why their beta access had been suspended without explanation.

Blizzard said an email explaining the removal, including the offending name, should have been sent, and suggested checking spam or junk folders. Forever’s new first-and-last-name system has given players far more room for creative names, which Blizzard said also opened new ways to create names that break its existing naming policies. The company said its report tool exists specifically to flag names like these, and that its Forever development team is working through the ones brought to its attention. Players who believe a removal was a mistake can file an appeal.

Why it matters: the new two-name system doesn’t loosen Blizzard’s naming rules — a name that would get flagged on a normal server can still cost you your beta slot.
