Forever is realmless, not regionless

Your full name is unique across the region. Changing ruleset needs a transfer. Oceania keeps its own servers.

The September 17 live Q&A added detail to the realmless design Blizzard announced at BlizzCon. Players choose a ruleset rather than a realm and play with others on that ruleset, with battlegrounds the one activity shared between them. Moving a character to another ruleset needs a character transfer.

On names, the second name field is mandatory. A full name is unique across the whole region and cannot be reused on another ruleset, which Blizzard framed as the identifier that makes a much larger shared population workable.

Forever is realmless but not regionless. Oceanic players are hosted on Oceanic datacenters while sharing the US-wide auction house. When a group spans datacenters the game picks the one that suits the whole group, so someone playing with friends overseas may see higher ping.

Why it matters: the ruleset is a one-way choice short of a character transfer, and a full name can be held only once per region, so both are worth settling before launch night.

Tracked on everything we know.
