At launch, World of Warcraft: Forever will drop support for GPUs older than AMD Graphics Core Next 1 (2012), NVIDIA Maxwell (2014), or Intel Skylake (2015). Blizzard says most players already have compatible hardware, and lists example compatible cards including the AMD Radeon HD 7850, NVIDIA GTX 750/750 Ti and GTX 9xx series, and Intel HD Graphics 530. Example unsupported cards include the AMD Radeon HD 6950 and NVIDIA GTX 760/770/780.
Blizzard attributes the change to Forever’s new visual look, which relies on RGBA16F UAV support in compute shaders, a feature introduced to GPUs around 2012.
Players can check their GPU model in Windows via Settings → System → Display → Advanced display, or in Device Manager under Display adapters. Full minimum system requirements are on the Battle.net Shop.
Why it matters: players on older hardware should check their GPU now, ahead of the November 4 launch, rather than finding out at install time.
