Your Classic addons won't just work in Forever
Forever uses Midnight's addon API. Old Classic addons like WeakAuras will need rewriting.

Blizzard has confirmed, through its WoW UI Discord, that WoW: Forever will inherit the addon API changes shipping in Midnight rather than run on the older Classic addon system. Forever and modern retail share the same underlying UI code, which Blizzard is internally calling two “game types”: Camelot (Forever’s working name, to be renamed before launch) and Standard (modern retail).
That means the addon disarmament changes introduced for Midnight apply to Forever too, including the “secrets” system and the AuraContainer/AuraButton changes added in patch 12.1. Both restrict what information addons can read and display, aimed at stopping addons from giving a competitive edge over playing the game yourself.
The practical effect: addons built for the old Classic API, including tools like WeakAuras, will need to be rewritten against the new API to work in Forever. Blizzard said further changes to the addon API in Forever, if any, would land in both Standard and Forever at the same time going forward.
Why it matters: Forever players who lean on addons for raid cooldowns, threat, or UI overlays should expect their current Classic addons not to work as-is, and should watch for Forever-specific rewrites rather than porting a Classic Era addon over.
